PITMAN, N.J. – Shannon Devitt, a recent graduate of the TCNJ women's basketball team, has been selected as the NJAC Female Athlete of the Year.

The NJAC Board of Athletic Administrators votes for the recipients of the NJAC Female and Male Athlete of the Year honors. To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must have at least a 2.5 GPA and own at least sophomore academic status.

Devitt finished her dominant career with an outstanding senior season. She averaged 19 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, along with an average of 3.3 blocks per game. She shot 51% from the field to lead all players in the conference, and Devitt was also the conference's leader in rebounds and blocks, while ranking second in scoring.

The NJAC Female Athlete of the Year honor is another well-deserved award to be added to Devitt's trophy case. In April, she received WBCA First Team All-America honors, one of the highest awards a Division III women's basketball player can earn. In doing so, she became TCNJ's first WBCA All-American since Hillary Klimowicz in 2008-09. She was also elected to the prestitious TCNJ Blue and Gold Hall of Fame. Devitt additionally was named to the WBCA All-Star team, the D3hoops.com All-Region team, First Team All-NJAC, and NJAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Devitt leaves behind a legacy that places her among the top players all-time in TCNJ women's basketball history. This past season, she broke Candy Kaschak's career program rebounding record of 962 rebounds, which was a mark that stood since 1984. Devitt ranks second in TCNJ history in blocks with 207 and sixth in points with 1,282, despite only playing 10 games in her senior season. A full season possibly could have propelled Devitt to TCNJ's all-time scoring record as well, which stands at 1,518 points.

Not only did she shine on the basketball court, Devitt was a standout in the classroom as well. She graduated with a 3.95 GPA while majoring in accounting. For her efforts, Devitt earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in May.
